  17.                          What is "NAMES"?
  18.  
  19. The NAMES program is a user friendly way of storing, retrieving, and
  20. printing names and addresses. Information that is added to the NAMES
  21. database is automatically sorted by lastname as well as by function.
  22.  
  23. There is NO limit to the number of names that can be added to the database,
  24. other than disk storage considerations.
  25.  
  26. There is also context-sensitive help available by pressing the <F1> key.

  29.                          How do I use "NAMES"?
  30.  
  31. Installation: The NAMES program can be installed by typing "INSTALL" and
  32. pressing <RETURN> from the drive in which the names program currently
  33. resides. The installation program will create a subdirectory called "NAMES"
  34. on your C: drive and copy all the necessary files to it.
  35.  
  36. The NAMES program is normally run by typing in "NAMES" at your command
  37. prompt which will bring you to the Main Menu.
  38.  
  39. To quickly find a name you can bypass the Main Menu by typing in "NAMES [name]"
  40. at the command prompt. For example, "NAMES SMI" will take you immediately to
  41. the name of SMITH in the NAMES database.

  43. The Main Menu offers the following options:
  44.  
  45.                        1. Search
  46.                        2. Add
  47.                        3. Print
  48.                        4. Exit
  49.

  52. NOTE: This option will not work if info has not been added to the
  53.       NAMES database (i.e. option 2 of the Main Menu).
  54.  
  55. The Search option gives you the ability to find specific info in the NAMES
  56. database.  Once this option is selected, you will then be given the option
  57. of searching for a name or a function.
  58.  
  59. Search by Name: If this option is chosen, an input window is provided
  60.    where the last name of the person you are searching is typed in. You only
  61.    need to put in the first few letters of the name. Press <RETURN> to begin
  62.    the search. The program will find the name selected, or will find the name
  63.    that is alphabetically following the desired name if it is not found.

  65. Search by Function: If this option is selected, an input window is provided
  66.    where the Function is put in.  A Function is something that several names
  67.    have in common. "FRIEND", "CLIENT", and "SUPPLIER" are examples of a
  68.    function.

  70. If nothing is typed in the input window when <RETURN> is pressed, the first
  71. name (or function) in the database will be found.

  73. You can then scroll through the other names in the NAMES database by pressing
  74. the <PgDn> or <PgUp> keys.

  76. If you scroll to the end of the database, you will be given the option of
  77. adding new names to the database. When a new name is added, it will
  78. automatically be sorted by last name and function.

  83. The Add option from the Main Menu gives you the ability to add new info to
  84. the NAMES database. Once a name has been added, it can be saved by pressing
  85. the <PgDn> key, or discarded by pressing the <ESC> key.

  87. When a new name is added, it will automatically be sorted by last name and
  88. function.

  93. The Print option from the Main Menu gives you the ability to print all the
  94. info in the NAMES database.  Once this option is selected, you will then be
  95. given the option of printing the info sorted by name or by function.
